Here's a recap of the significant stories in entertainment across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films, and sometimes the odd television series as well.

Rana Daggubati and Sai Pallavi starrer Virata Parvam is a battle of love and war (Telugu)

Virata Parvam explores a Naxalite story, based on the true events of the 1990s. Sai Pallavi plays Vennela and Rana Daggubati plays Ravanna, a Naxalite leader. Set against the backdrop of the Naxalite movement, the film takes you through an intense action-thriller through the story of Vennela and how far she goes for love.

Virata Parvam is written and directed by Venu Udugula. It stars Rana Daggubati, Sai Pallavi, Priyamani, Nivetha Pethuraj, Nandita Das, and Naveen Chandra. It is produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri under the banner Suresh Productions and SLV Cinemas. Dani Salo and Divakar Mani are the cinematographers. Sreekar Prasad is the editor and Suresh Bobbili has scored the music. Virata Parvam is slated to hit the theatres on June 17.

Kallapart teaser, feat. Arvind Swami and Regina Cassandra (Tamil)

Kallapart looks like a mystery survival thriller. Arvind Swami's character is bound to a wheelchair and Regina Cassandra and a small girl seem to seek shelter in his house. A person called Guru appears to be the troublemaker. In one of the scenes, Arvind Swami says, "I can't beat Guru but I can defeat him". There are also scenes where they are going out through a tunnel. The teaser, without giving the plot point, has piqued the interest. 

Kallapart is directed by P Rajapandi. It stars Arvind Swami, Regina Cassandra, Parthi, Hareesh Peradi and Baby Monika. The film is produced by S Parthi and S Seena. The music is composed by Nivas K Prasanna. Arvind Krishna is the DOP and Elayaraja S is the editor. It is expected to release on June 24.

Manju Warrer and Soubin Shahir's Vellaripattanam teaser released (Malayalam)

Vellaripattanam stars Manju Warrier and Soubin Shahir in lead roles, as siblings. The teaser shows a glimpse of their lives, where when someone visits their house for a matter related to money, Soubin assumes it is someone who has lent him money in the past. He then runs from there and jumps into the pond. It looks like the film will be a fun riot. 

Vellaripattanam is written by Sarath Krishna and Mahesh Vettiyaar, and directed by the latter. Alex J Pulickal is the DOP, Appu N Bhattathiri is the editor and Sachin Shankor Mannath is the music director. It is produced by Fullon Studios.

Rakshit Shetty's Saptha Sagaradaache Ello is an intense love drama (Kannada)

Saptha Sagaradaache Ello explores the story of Manu and his lover, characters played by Rakshit Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth. Based on the teaser, it looks like they are distanced due to circumstances but are deeply in love with each other. Interestingly, the new look poster of Manu released by the makers suggests that the storyline might also take a leap in time, with the second half taking place a decade later.

Saptha Sagaradaache Ello is directed by Hemanth M Rao and co-written by Gundu Shetty. It stars Rakshit Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Avinash, Sharath Lohitashwa, Achyutha Kumar, and Pavitra Lokesh. The film marks the collaboration of Rakshit Shetty and director Hemanth after Godhi Banna Sadharan Mykattu. It is produced by Rakshit Shetty under the banner Paramvah Pictures Production. Advaitha Gurumurthy is the DOP and Charan Raj is the music director.

Vezham is a murder mystery starring Ashok Selvan, Janani, and Iswarya Menon (Tamil)

Set in the woods, Vezham traces the story of Leena Joseph and Ashok Chandrasekaran. Though the court believes that they both are victims of a crime, with Leena dead and Ashok being the survivor, the trailer stresses that Ashok might have some secrets. As a writer attempts to learn more about the case, the truth slowly unfurls.

Vezham is written and directed by Sandeep Shyam. It stars Ashok Selvan, Janani, Iswarya Menon, and Shyam Sundhar. The film is produced by Keseven under K4 Kreations. Jhanu Chanthar composed music for Vezham. Shakthi Arvind is the DOP and AK Prasath is the editor. It is scheduled to release on June 24.

Jayam Ravi says "He is the king of the Indian ocean" in Agilan teaser (Tamil)

After Bhooloham, director N Kalyana Krishnan and Jayam Ravi reunite for the action film Agilan. Set in the backdrop of Indian ocean and harbour, Jayam Ravi plays a baddie and Priya Bhavani Shankar plays a police officer. The teaser has him speaking many punch dialogues like "You can separate salt from water, but you can't separate Agilan from harbour". 

Agilan is directed by N Kalayana Krishnan and produced by Screen Scene Media Entertainment Pvt Ltd. It stars Jayam Ravi, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Tanya Ravichandran in important roles. Sam CS is the music director, N Ganesh Kumar is the editor and Vivek Anand is the cinematographer. It is expected to release on September 15. 

Prithviraj Sukumaran to direct Tyson (Malayalam)

Prithviraj Sukumaran's fourth directorial is titled Tyson. The story is penned by Murali Gopy and is bankrolled by Hombale Films. Prithviraj also acts in this film and It is said to be focused on burning social issues.  Tyson goes with the tagline, "The bell won't save you…!" The film will be released in all five languages – Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. 

Arabbie narrates the story of a swimmer, based on real events (Kannada)

Based on real events, Arabbie is centered around a swimmer who does not have hands and a severe storm that is going to hit the land. Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai plays as a coach in the film. 

Arabbie is written and directed by Rajkumar R. The cast includes Vishwas KS, Annamalai K (IPS), Chaithra Rao, Baby Adithi Ram, Kakolu Ramaiah, and Jeetendra. It is produced by Chethan CS. Anand Dindawar is the DOP, Kambada Ranga is the music director and N M Vishwa is the editor. 

Sivakarthikeyan's Prince first and second looks unveiled (Tamil)

Directed by Anudeep KV, Sivakarthikeyan's 20th film is titled Prince. The makers revealed a few posters last week. In the first poster, Sivakarthikeyan was seen holding a globe in his hand, with the world map in the background surrounded by different flags. The second look poster featured both Sivakarthikeyan and the female lead Ukrainian actor Maria Ryaboshapka, with the former holding a Thirukkural book. 

Prince also stars Sathyaraj and Premji. It is produced by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas in association with Suresh Productions. S Thaman scores the music for the film. It is scheduled to hit the theatres on August 31. 

Shine Tom Chacko's Boomerang first look released (Malayalam)

Directed by Manu Sudhakaran, Boomerang's first look has a cartoon-like collage of the different characters. The cast includes Shine Tom Chacko, Chemban Vinod Jose, Samyuktha Menon, and others. The script was written by debutant Krishnadas Panki. Vishnu Narayanan handles the cinematography and Subeer Ali Khan is the music composer. The film is said to be a mystery entertainer.

Sibi Sathyaraj's Maayon to release on June 24, trailer out (Tamil)

Maayon is a mythological thriller that revolves around an ancient temple and its unique architecture. The trailer seems to travel back and forth in the timeline, giving us glimpses of what's happening today and a war that happened in the past. Sibi Sathyaraj and Tanya Ravichandran play as archeologists and it looks like this leads them to learn about the science, myth, and history of the temple. 

Maayon is directed by Kishore N. Arun Mozhi Manickam penned the screenplay and produced the film. The cast includes Sibi Sathyaraj, Tanya Ravichandran, Datho Radha Ravi, K.S.Ravikumar and Bagavathi Perumal.  Ilaiyaraaja has composed the music for the film. Ram Prasad is the DOP and Ram Pandian and Kondalarao are the editors. It is scheduled to release on June 24. 

A glimpse of Nikhil Siddhartha's Spy (Telugu)

Nikhil Siddhartha plays a spy in the film. The glimpse video shows him walking in a snowy mountain and finally finding a briefcase of weapons. Garry BH has directed and edited Spy. K Rajashekhar Reddy produced the film. Anirudh Krishna Murthy has penned the script. Sricharan Pakala has scored the music and Julian Amaru Estrada is the DOP. It is scheduled to release on the occasion of Dussehra in 2022 in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada. 

Sundar C's next titled Coffee With Kaadhal (Tamil)

Sundar C's Coffee With Kaadhal is billed as a happy and energizing entertainer. The image in the poster suggest a marriage sequence in the film. Coffee With Kaadhal has an interesting cast with Jiiva, Jai, Srikanth, Malvika Sharma, Amritha and Aishwarya Dutta playing the leads. Divya Dharshini aka DD and Samyuktha are also playing prominent roles in the film. It is an Yuvan Shankar Raja musical and is produced by Avni Cinemax in association with Benzz media. 

Lavanya Tripathi's Happy Birthday teaser released (Telugu)

What happens if everyone in the country is allowed to own a gun? That is the driving plot line of Happy Birthday. Lavanya Tripathi plays the central character and is seen using some huge guns. Vennela Kishore plays the central minister who passes the fair use of guns bill. The film seems to be an action-comedy entertainer. 

Happy Birthday is written and directed by Ritesh Rana. It stars Lavanya Tripathi, Naresh Agastya, Satya, and Vennela Kishore. Kaala Bhairava composed the music. Suresh Sarangam helmed the cinematography and Karthika Srinivas R handled the editing. The film is produced by Chiranjeevi (Cherry) and Hemalatha Pedamallu under the banner Clap Entertainment and presented by Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar Yalamanchili under Mythri Movie Makers.

First look of Tovino Thomas' Neelavelicham out (Malayalam)

The makers of Neelavelicham released the first look poster featuring a silhouette of Tovino Thomas. The film also stars Roshan Mathew, Rima Kallingal, Shine Tom Chacko and Rajesh Madhavan. 

Directed by Aashiq Abu, It is an adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's short story Neelavelicham. Gireesh Ganagdharan is the DOP and Saiju Sreedharan handles the editing. Bijibal and Rex Vijayan score the music for the film. 

Suzhal -The Vortex starring Aishwarya Rajesh and Kathir is a crime thriller (Tamil)

Suzhal -The Vortex is a web series created and produced by Pushkar and Gayatri. It revolves around the case of a missing school girl. Aishwarya Rajesh plays the sister of the missing girl. Kathir and Sriya Reddy play the police officers who investigate the case. 

Suzal – The Vortex is directed by Bramma and Anucharan M. It stars Kathir, Aishwarya Rajesh, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, and Sriya Reddy. It is written, created, and produced by Pushkar and Gayatri. The film is scheduled to stream on Amazon Prime Video from June 17.
