Following the hugely popular Munna Bhai MBBS, Rajkumar Hirani’s sophomore film reprised the character of the affable gangster Munna played by Sanjay Dutt. In this story, Munna falls in love with an Jahnvi (an RJ played by Vidya Balan) to whom he has lied about being a history professor and an expert on Mahatma Gandhi.

Lage Raho Munna Bhai saw Arshad Warsi reprise his role as the best friend Circuit and Boman Irani played the corrupt businessman Lucky Singh. The film, which espoused non-violence, became the first Indian film to be screened at the United Nations in November 2006. It was also part of the Tous Les Cinema du Monde section of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival where it received thunderous applause.

Lage Raho Munna Bhai received widespread appreciation from critics and audiences alike. It also won four National Awards – Best Popular Film for Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Dilip Prabhavalkar (Mahatma Gandhi), Best Dialogue (Rajkumar Hirani & Abhijat Joshi) and Best Lyrics (Swanand Kirkire). Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, it was declared the highest grosser of 2006 in India.
