Shree 420 (1955)

Shree 420 follows a small-town man with big dreams who is led astray by an unscrupulous businessman and becomes a fraud. The romance in the film develops against the backdrop of a beloved musical sequence in the rain: ‘Pyar Hua Ikrar Hua’.

Lagaan: Once Upon A Time in India (2001)

Aamar Khan plays a young farmer who leads his team to victory in a cricket wager against the British officers that would exempt the village from taxes for two years. The film ends with glorious rainfall that breathes hope and joy into the lives of the villagers.  

Monsoon Wedding (2001)

This critically acclaimed film directed by Mira Nair and featuring an ensemble cast is about the drama that unfolds during a traditional Punjabi wedding. The monsoons set in just as the marriage takes place, and all the characters find their happy ending.

Mohra (1994)

This action-thriller about a journalist who appeals for the release of a convicted murderer is best-remembered for its iconic soundtrack. The song ‘Tip Tip Barsa Pani’, in which Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon frolic in the rain, has become a monsoon classic.

Wake Up Sid (2009)

Ranbir Kapoor rose to stardom with his role as an aimless but earnest college student in this film. When he realises that the woman he loves feels the same, he rushes to meet her in the pouring rain, and the couple joyfully embrace in Marine Drive.
