When I read something. It just stews in my head and ideas start to come. And i stay with them. For as long as I can and then I throw out all the things that don’t make sense. It’s mostly me sitting and thinking. It becomes a part of my life. I’m thinking about it while brushing my teeth, eating.
A lot of my understanding of the character comes from submitting to the text and accepting the reality of the character. You don’t judge it, which is why also you feel changed because it forces you to think in ways we wouldn’t generally.
Because it was sort of a negative character, a villain. That’s the only thing I told Raj & DK that I’m limiting the number of villains I play because I want to try other things. But it was such a wonderful part and I would’ve really regretted saying no to it.
I needed more classes than the rest of them. Cop is a job and not a personality. The Hindi film lover in me is dying to play the filmy cop like Singham! I had to really curb that enthusiasm and flush it down the toilet. And say it’s a job. Devi is not that sort of a cop.
When something comes out. You did great. Now you have to follow a certain pattern because it is easily recognizable and it creates a perception of being successful. It’s all about the perception and visibility.
