Great Performances in Bad Movies

Team FC

Gary Oldman - Air Force One (1997)

Oldman played the terrorist villain of the Wolfgang Petersen hijack actioner as a heightened caricature but in doing so, he located the one interesting element in the film, making you sit up and notice him.

Daniel Day-Lewis - Gangs of New York (2002)

Day-Lewis made Bill the Butcher feel threatening in this Martin Scorsese film that was all too placid in approaching a revenge saga about a son seeking to challenge his father's murderer.

Deepika Padukone - Happy New Year (2014)

Deepika Padukone was the only funny part of this otherwise unfunny Farah Khan heist comedy, playing up her character's mannerisms and yet imbuing her with heart and innocence.

Govinda - Kill Dil (2014)

Cast as a villain by Shaad Ali, Govinda chewed up his scenes, and the people in them, with great relish, revelling in his moment under the sun and actually allowing the actor in him to burst forth.

Tabu - Fitoor (2016)

The only performer who looked like she belonged on the sets of Abhishek Kapoor's adaptation of Great Expectations was Tabu, who turned Ms. Havisham into a mercurial, cruel queen of tragedy with great elan.

Rami Malek - Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

If it weren't for Malek's impeccable channeling of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, the Bryan Singer-helmed film, riddled with problem upon problem, would've fallen flat on its face.

Vicky Kaushal - Dunki (2023)

In a film filled with false notes and awkwardness, Kaushal produced a heartfelt performance that never once felt out of place.
