Rocky (1976) - Sylvester Stallone

Stallone wrote and starred in the much-heralded boxing picture directed by John G. Avildsen. Sense and Sensibility (1995) - Emma Thompson

Thompson adapted for the screen and starred in this Ang Lee film based on Jane Austen's novel, her first time penning the script of a film, an effort which won her the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Hamlet (1996) - Kenneth Branagh

Branagh has long worked to turn Shakespeare's work into faithful adaptations, and Hamlet was no different: he wrote and directed the adaptation, and also played the Prince of Denmark.

Good Will Hunting (1997) - Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

Unable to find a role they liked, childhood friends Damon and Affleck penned the screenplay of what eventually became a Gus van Sant film with the intention of writing good roles for themselves. Their efforts won them an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
