Prolific screenwriter duo Salim-Javed (composed of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) centre the frustrations of the common man in this action-crime film. Zanjeer marked a turning point for Amitabh Bachchan's career and Hindi cinema as a whole.

Deewaar (1975)

This critically and commercially successful film directed by Yash Chopra cemented Amitabh Bachchan's legendary status as the 'angry young man' of Hindi cinema. In fact, he was only cast in this film on the insistence of Salim-Javed, who felt that only Bachchan could do justice to the role.

Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973)

This quintessential masala film features an ensemble cast including Dharmendra, Zeenat Aman and Neetu Singh. The musical follows three brothers who were estranged due to a childhood tragedy, and eventually find their way back to each other.

Sholay (1973)

One of the greatest Indian films of all time, Sholay marked yet another blockbuster collaboration between Salim-Javed and Amitabh Bachchan. It is the story of a pair of criminals who are enlisted to capture a notorious dacoit. The dialogues were initially written in Urdu and transcribed later.

Mr. India (1987)

Starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri, this milestone superhero film is about an ordinary man who gains the power of invisibility. It was the second highest-grossing films that year, and has been remade in multiple Indian languages. Salim-Javed originally created the lead role for Rajesh Khanna.
