It’s Complicated (2006) 

This romantic comedy directed by Nancy Meyers is the story of an estranged couple who start a secret affair, ten years after their divorce. They meet for their son’s graduation and a lot of feelings from the past resurface. 

Aligarh (2015) 

This film directed by Hansal Mehta is one of the most gentle and heartbreaking dramas. The story is of a professor who was sacked unfairly due to politics. The case leads to heavy personal intrusion into his life and that leads the professor to form a special bond with the journalist who covers his story.

Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi (2019) 

This film directed by Seema Pahwa is a keen observation and an ode to Indian families. The story follows a death in the house and how the entire dispersed family comes together under one roof for a period of thirteen day mourning.

This film directed by Bela Sehgal is a very unlikely romantic comedy. It tells the story of Farhad, a 45 year old bachelor who meets Shirin when she visits his shop. Once they fall in love, the two face a very amusing and adventurous time together as a couple.

Waves (2019) 

This film directed by Trey Edward Shults is a family drama. The story focus on the emotional journey of a suburban African American family as they navigate growth, love, forgiveness and loss in their lives.

Nil Battey Sannata (2016)

This film directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is the story of a single mother and her struggle towards her daughter’s education. It is quite a moving coming of age drama but it also has a very light and sarcastic voice that makes the film a great watch.
