9 (2009)  

This is a science fiction film directed by Shane Acker. The film is set in an fictional scenario during the 1940s, following the story of a rag doll labeled "9" who wakes up to the end of mankind and rise of the machines. 

The Breadwinner (2017) 

This is a drama film directed by Nora Twomey, based on the best-selling novel by Deborah Ellis. The film follows Parvana, a young girl  and her family who live in Kabul, ruled by the Taliban. After her father gets arrested, she chooses to disguise herself as a boy in order to earn money for the family’s survival. 

Waking Life  (2001) 

This is a film written and directed by Richard Linklater. It is the story of a young man who wanders through a series of dreamlike realities, encountering people who engage in insightful philosophical discussions like the meaning of life, free will, and existentialism.

Suzume (2022) 

This is a coming-of-age fantasy adventure film written and directed by Makoto Shinkai. The story follows Suzume Iwato, an introverted 17-year-old girl who has to prevent a series of supernatural disasters across Japan. 

Bombay Rose (2019) 

This is a film written, edited, designed and directed by Gitanjali Rao. The film tells the story of an orphan, Salim who struggles through life alone and Kamala, a hardworking flower seller. The two fall in love at a market in the hustling city of Bombay and a story exploring culture, religion and society ensues. 

The Siren (2021) 

Directed by Sepideh Farsi, the film is set in Abadan, the oil centre of Iran. After an Iraqi missile strikes the city, the already debilitating situation descends into chaos. The film tells the story of a young boy, Omid as he searches for his missing brother and creates an escape route for his people. 

Paprika (2006) 

This is a science fiction film directed by Satoshi Kon.The film is based on the novel of the same name by Yasutaka Tsutsui. The story is about a stolen device that allows others to share their dreams. A research psychologist turned detective, Paprika enters the dream world to investigate the case.
