The offspring of Duke Leto Atreides and Lady Jessica, has a distinctive upbringing. As the heir to a noble family governing the planet Caladan, he has received rare training in the ways of the Bene Gesserit from his mother, which is uncommon for men in the Dune universe.
The noble House Atreides, which governs the planet Caladan, is tasked with governing the planet Arrakis. Duke Leto Atreides suspects that this assignment may be a setup orchestrated by the former rulers of Arrakis.
Leto believes that the Emperor views House Atreides as a rising danger to his rule and aims to diminish their power by instigating a war with another house. Leto embraces the opportunity to govern Arrakis, convinced of its undiscovered possibilities.
Before departing for Arrakis with his family, Paul experiences numerous dreams and visions of occurrences on the planet. These visions continue to occur in the initial film, stemming from his unique birth, enabling him to glimpse potential future events.
Paul's dreams and visions, intensify upon consuming the Spice on Arrakis, confirming his status as the Kwisatz Haderach, a superhuman with prescient abilities. This designation, coupled with his prophetic powers, leads the Fremen to believe him to be their messiah, Muad'Dib.
She initially appears in Paul's dreams even though they haven't met. Chani is a Fremen woman who eventually encounters Paul later in the first movie when he flees to the desert and integrates into her tribe.
An illegitimate daughter of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, defies the Bene Gesserit's plan by bearing a son, Paul, with Leto Atreides. Despite never marrying, she remains Leto's concubine, raising Paul together, and ultimately flees to the desert with him by the end of Dune.
