Swades (2004) - Netflix

Shah Rukh Khan's third 2004 release was also one of his best performances, but audiences kept their distance from the hopeful drama despite excellent reviews.

Tamasha (2015) - Netflix

Imtiaz Ali's film reunited the much-loved pair of Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor and earned a fair few plaudits which did not, however, translate into box office returns.

Mukkabaaz (2017) - ZEE5

Anurag Kashyap tackled the state of Indian boxing and an inter-caste romance in this knockout of a drama led by Vineet Kumar Singh, but the film didn't rake in the moolah.

Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2018) - Netflix

Vasan Bala's zany, self-assuredly over-the-top action comedy was a treat to watch, with all the elements a film of its kind ought to have had, but the positivity of the film and those who watched it didn't reveal itself in the box office numbers.

Sonchiriya (2019) - ZEE5

Abhishek Chaubey's 70s-set action-drama was one of the best Hindi films of 2019 but the subject matter and the grim, realistic treatment kept audiences away.

An Action Hero (2022) - Netflix

Anirudh Iyer's sharp satirical actioner gave Ayushmann Khurrana an opportunity to flex his acting muscle, and gave Jaideep Ahlawat a fun villain to toy around with, but the good traction didn't convert to box office gold.

Merry Christmas (2024) - N/A

Despite earning terrific reviews across the board, the first major Hindi film of 2024 pulled in relatively small audiences, ultimately scoring a below par box office run.
