Psycho (1960)

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the film follows one Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) who is in-charge of looking after his aged mother (Vera Miles) in the family motel and what happens when a woman (Janet Leigh) on the run ends up asking for a room there.

The Cremator (1969)

A Czech New Wave film directed by Juraj Herz, the narrative follows the operator (Rudolf Hrušínský) of a crematorium in late 1930s Czechoslovakia, who believes that cremation relieves earthly suffering.

Alien (1979)

Directed by Ridley Scott, the film is about a group of commercial space explorers who stumble a signal from a distant planet and land there, not knowing the size of the Pandora's Box they've opened.

The Shining (1980)

An adaptation of a Stephen King novel directed by Stanley Kubrick, the film followed the Torrance family as they come to stay in the Overlook Hotel at the end of the season and how Jack (Jack Nicholson) descends into madness over time.

The Thing (1982)

John Carpenter directed this creature feature about American scientists in Antarctica coming under attack from a dog they have rescued, only to find themselves locked in battle against it moments later.

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Adapted from a Thomas Harris novel, Jonathan Demme's film follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling's (Jodie Foster) interactions with serial killer and cannibal Dr. Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins) which gives her insights into the minds of others like him and also brings the two dangerously close.

Cure (1997)

Kiyoshi Kurosawa's film follows a police-psychological investigation into a series of murders which are happening such that victim and perpetrator are found next to each other, with the latter having not a clue of what has transpired.
