Omkara (2006) 

This crime drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj is adapted from the framework of Othello by William Shakespeare. The story is about the betrayal and revenge of three men, Langda and Keshav who want to be the successor to Omkara, who holds the political power of their local constituency. 

Court (2014) 

This is a legal drama film, written and directed by Chaitanya Tamhane in his directorial debut.  The film is a satire on the Indian legal system, telling the story of an aging revolutionary singer, who is accused of encouraging suicide through his music. 

Guzaarish (2010) 

This is a romantic drama film written and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film explores the concept of mercy killing through the story of a paralysed magician who files a petition in court seeking permission to end his life.

The societal norms keep her from exploring her full potential so when a cousin visits them, Charulata spends a lot of time with him and develops a special bond. 

Lagaan (2001) 

This is a period musical film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Set during British Rule, a village protests a hike in their tax policies and a young farmer named Bhuvan accepts the challenge of Captain Andrew Russell to beat his team in a game of cricket to be exempted from paying the taxes.

Elippathayam (1982) 

This is a film written and directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. It tells the story of three siblings and their ancestral home in Kerala. The protagonist, Unni is caged within himself and does not want to accept a change in the house or in society in general.
