7 Actors Who Failed as Producers

Team FC

Uday Chopra

Though better known for being in front of the camera, Chopra started out behind it, producing Naresh Malhotra's Yeh Dillagi (1994) before shifting his attention to acting. He then backed Pyaar Impossible (2010), followed by two international ventures: Grace of Monaco (2014) and The Longest Week (2014). All three films failed to make a mark.

Raveena Tandon

Tandon produced and starred in Stumped (2003) and Pehchaan (2005) but is yet to back another film after neither of her initial ventures found takers.

Shilpa Shetty

Shetty produced the film Dishkiyaoon (2014), an actioner directed by Sanamjit Singh Talwar which starred Harman Baweja and Sunny Deol. Shetty made an appearance in a promotional music video, but the lacklustre response the film generated meant she hasn't produced another film since then.

Ranbir Kapoor

Kapoor turned producer with the 2017 Anurag Basu adventure-musical Jagga Jasoos, in which he played the lead role. The repeated delays on that production made him swear off producing, and though he was subsequently credited as a producer on Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva (2022), he has not made an endeavour to produce another film.

Arjun Rampal

The model-turned-actor ventured into screenwriting and producing with the Arun Gawli biopic Daddy (2017), in which he also acted. The mixed reception to the film meant that Rampal is yet to produce another film.

Deepika Padukone

Padukone turned producer with the Meghna Gulzar film Chhapaak (2020), which she also starred in. She went on to produce Kabir Khan's 83 (2021), in which she played a brief supporting role as well. Both films received mixed reviews and were financially unsuccessful. Padukone has not produced a film since 83.

Kartik Aaryan

The actor turned producer with his 2023 romantic comedy Shehzaada, a film which failed to find many takers for it.
