Dragonball Evolution (2009) - Amazon Prime Video

The most significant flaw that led to the failure of this anime-to-live-action adaptation was its lack of loyalty to the source material, and the poor casting choices indicated whitewashing.

Beauty and the Beast (2017) - Disney+ Hotstar

The writer of the animated Beauty and the Beast (1991) pointed out that the 2017 live-action version wasn't true to the mythology. Other critics noted that it was trying too hard to emulate its animated predecessor.

Tom and Jerry (2021) - Amazon Prime Video

The live-action remake of this iconic cartoon duo was criticised for being unfunny, soulless and confusing due to shoddy storytelling. The themes the film was trying to execute overshadowed Tom and Jerry.

Aladdin (2019) - Disney+ Hotstar

Becoming a hit just because the expectations in the first place were low is not that much of an achievement. The film failed to rectify flaws in the 1992 animated film and did not add anything new to the discourse.

Peter Pan & Wendy (2023) - Disney+ Hotstar

Criticised for not being imaginative, this 2023 live-action movie based on the beloved Peter Pan character flopped for many reasons, including the fact that it took Peter, a relatable boy, and turned him into a mess.

The Little Mermaid (2023) - Disney+ Hotstar

John Musker, the director of the original 1989 version recently criticised the live-action remake. He stated that " you could look at live animals in a zoo and they have more expression" and that it ignored the heart of the story, i.e., the father-daughter arc.
