Kartik Aaryan replaced Akshay Kumar in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2

Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the psychological-horror film starring Akshay Kumar, was a blockbuster upon its release in 2007. 15 years later, a stand-alone sequel was released with Kartik Aaryan in the lead role. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was one of the highest-grossing films of 2022.

Salman Khan replaced Saif in Race 3

The first two films of the Race franchise were directed by Abbas-Mustan and featured an ensemble cast including Anil Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Remo D’Souza directed the third instalment of the series in 2018, with Salman Khan in the lead role instead of Saif Ali Khan.

Akshay Kumar replaced Arshad Warsi in Jolly LLB 2

Arshad Warsi played a lawyer in this black comedy courtroom drama inspired by a real-life incident. The film was received well, and followed up by a sequel four years later. Jolly LLB 2 featured Akshay Kumar as the lead character.

Vidya Balan replaced Gracy Singh in Munna Bhai

Munna Bhai M.B.B.S was the first instalment of the beloved franchise directed by Rajkumar Hirani. It starred Sanjay Dutt and Gracy Singh, who plays a doctor. In the sequel Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Vidya Balan replaces her as the female lead.

Kareena Kapoor replaced Rimi Sen in Golmaal

The first film in Rohit Shetty’s hit comedy franchise Golmaal had an ensemble cast of Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Sharman Joshi, along with Rimi Sen. Golmaal 3 (2010) retained most of the original cast with the new addition of Kareena Kapoor.
