The film has inspired quite a few remakes in other languages, yet nothing comes close to the original helmed by Fazil. That said, Manichitrathazhu truly belongs to Shobana. Her haunting dance in Oru Murai Vanthu is one for the ages.
Balancing horror and comedy is a difficult task. Very few films get the combination right, and Vellinakshatram is one of them. It helps that you have a charismatic Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, who rises beyond the film's generic writing and makes it immensely watchable.
