#Baazigar doubles the runtime of its Hollywood "inspiration" by adding a compelling enough #ManmohanDesai style Maa angle, which provides much-needed emotional urgency to the original's anaemic cat-and-mouse games. And as with most iconic Bollywood films, its pleasures are in its detours - 𝘠𝘦 𝘒𝘢𝘢𝘭𝘪 𝘒𝘢𝘢𝘭𝘪 𝘈𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘩𝘦𝘯, 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘢𝘭𝘪 𝘬𝘢 𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢 𝘪𝘤𝘦-𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘬𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘻𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘳𝘪 𝘩𝘢𝘪, to name just two. Many A-listers of the time (#SalmanKhan, #AnilKapoor and #AkshayKumar) turned down the part, proving that every now and then a risk-averse system will create an opportunity for an adventurous performer to make their mark - forever changing the definition of what a mainstream "hero" could be seen doing on screen.
