Music: Ajay-Atul

Lyrics: Amitabh Bhattacharya

Director: Karan Malhotra

I remember reading in some twitter discussion long back that the reason Ajay Atul have not made much inroads into Bollywood is that their songs carry a very Marathi sound. A silly reason if true, in my opinion, firstly I don't see why one should find Marathi folk's infectious energy to be a deterrent for film music (especially Bollywood), and secondly, Ajay Atul's music is much more than just Marathi folk – their skill at creating grand orchestral sounds for instance is something few can match. And Agneepath is an ideal example of what the industry is missing by not employing the duo more often. The soundtrack has everything that characterises the composers – addictive folk-based compositions, mind-blowing orchestral pieces and sometimes a combination of both.

Best Song of Agneepath: I love going back to every song from the soundtrack every once in a while, but over time have grown to like O Saiyyaan more than the rest. An exceptionally crafted melody set in an expansive soundscape that keeps alternating between quiet and intense, riding on some gorgeous violins. And wonderfully sung by Roop Kumar Rathod.

The Agneepath Playlist:

  1. Chikni Chameli (Singer: Shreya Ghoshal)
  2. O Saiyyan (Singer: Roop Kumar Rathod)
  3. Gun Gun Guna (Singers: Sunidhi Chauhan, Udit Narayan)
  4. Shah Ka Rutba (Singers: Sukhwinder Singh, Anand Raj Anand, Krishna Beura)
  5. Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin (Singer: Sonu Nigam)
  6. Deva Shree Ganesha (Singer: Ajay Gogvale)
