The National Gallery of Modern Art Mumbai is currently hosting 'Light Works' – a retrospective of celebrated photographer Jeetendra Arya's works, curated by Sabeena Gadihoke. The photo exhibition was inaugurated by Shabana Azmi on September 1 and will be on till October 8. The photographer didn't merely chronicle famous people. His best photographs emerged from a creative culmination of technique and imagination. Light, shadow, gesture, pose, mood, angle and tone were used to create enduring portraits.
Arya published many photo features on artists, musicians and dancers in the Illustrated Weekly of India that was preferred by photographers because of its superior photogravure printing. In 1961, he joined the Times of India group of publications as a special photographer. His photographs of film stars appeared in various publications in India, including Screen, Filmfare, Madhuri, Dharmyug, Sarika, Gentleman and Debonair.
