FC Trailer Talk: Sarkar 3

FC Trailer Talk: Sarkar 3

The last instalment in this series, Sarkar Raj, released in 2008. Not much has changed in the Sarkar universe since then. Subhash Nagre (Amitabh Bachchan), the enigmatic Maharashtrian Don Corleone around whom these films revolve, still loves to glower in seclusion. He is still partial to an all-black ensemble accessorised by a rudraksha mala. And teacups are a useless invention in his world – he'll take the saucer, thank you!

Kidding aside, the trailer opens with some heavy-handed exposition. Nagre's favourite son (Abhishek Bachchan) is no more and he is hankering for revenge. A slew of character introductions follow: Amit Sadh is Nagre's grandson with a short fuse, Manoj Bajpayee plays the bespectacled neta and Jackie Shroff portrays Nagre's evil foil. Adding to the political intrigue is Yami Gautam, who is labelled "the betrayer", just to spell it out that she's up to no good.

Everything about the trailer is amped to 11. Bachchan is soliloquising to the hilt, the background score blares louder and louder and the confrontations are dramatic with a capital D. At the end, comes the kicker – "A Ram Gopal Varma Film". It has been a long time since this qualifier meant anything interesting at the movies. All bets are riding on Sarkar 3 to change that.
