Cannes 2017: Aishwarya’s Cinderella Moment On The Red Carpet

If the French names and the long trains leave you confused, we are breaking down the fashion choices of our leading ladies at Cannes this year.

THE LABEL: Michael Cinco

HOW DO YOU SAY IT: My-kuhl Sin-ko

WHO IS HE: The Dubai based Filipino couturier launched his label in 2003. He is known for his luxurious and dramatic designs and couture bridalwear. He has dressed celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Sofia Vergara, Mariah Carey, amongst many others, and is also a favourite of Pia Wurtzbach, a Germal Filipino model, the winner of the Miss Universe pageant in 2015.

OUR SAY: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may have given up her Miss World crown many years ago, but that hasn't ever made her stop feeling like a beauty queen. From throwing pageant-like flying kisses and waves at the audience to her choices of gowns on the red carpet, the beauty queen in her always find expression. But her most definitive princess moment of Cannes came yesterday.

Only in her first appearance of day 1, year 16 of being at Cannes, she looked like on a mission to make jaws drop. Catching us by the surprise in a look like never before, the green lightweight floral tiered gown by Yanina Couture was whimsical and beautiful. Just as we were getting ready for more surprises, the star went back to her comfort zone in the beige floral Mark Bumgarner gown.

Later when her stylist Aastha Sharma teased the glass slipper before her last appearance of the day, we were looking forward to an interpretation of the fairytale look (something cool, hopefully cheeky?). The Michael Cinco gown that Aishwarya finally floated in is every bit a masterpiece of luxe couture that we could expect. But, while we appreciated the drama of the intricately embellished powder blue concoction on the red carpet, having the Cannes veteran look literally like Cinderella at the ball was a little disappointing.
