Despite being active in film music for over 50 years, arranging and playing for some of the biggest composers of the industry, even composing for a handful of movies himself, it reportedly took the unavailability of Shiv Hari for Uttam Singh to land the biggest musical project of his career. Singh's compositions were perfectly aligned with lyricist Anand Bakshi's words and director Yash Chopra's musical sensibilities, and a superhit was born. 

Unfortunately, the man was unable to live up to the same standard in any of his future works. Singh even did a project in Malayalam for director T Hariharan – the man responsible for composer Ravi's long and successful run in Malayalam cinema – but the songs carried a strong DTPH hangover and were not particularly effective.

Best Song of Dil To Pagal Hai: Arey Re Arey Yeh Kya Hua, mainly for that opening tune that sort of attained an earworm-ish quality due to its multiple appearances throughout the movie.
