Jagjit Singh is most known among music lovers for his immense contribution in the field of ghazals. Though most of his famed music happened outside of movies, he did dabble in the occasional playback singing and composing. The most memorable work born out of the latter was the 1982 soundtrack of Arth. Mahesh Bhatt's first truly successful movie saw a beautiful incorporation of Singh's ghazal sensibilities resulting in some amazing compositions that stood out from the dominant Bollywood soundscape of the time.

Best Song of Arth: Like most of Jagjit Singh's musical works then, Arth too had him and his wife Chitra Singh handling all of the vocals. My favourite from the album is the melancholic Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar penned by the leading lady Shabana Azmi's father Kaifi Azmi, and sung by Singh in his trademark style.
